Web Exercise #1:  Federal Legislative Priorities

  1. Visit the National School Board Association website at: http://www.nsba.org/
  2. Click on the Advocacy link on their main menu.
  3. Next, select “Federal Legislative Priorities” from the drop-down menu.
  4. Click on one of the priorities listed on the column on the left-hand side of the page to explore the topic.
  5. After reading about the priority you selected, write your response to the NSBA stance on the issue.  Does it support your viewpoint?

Web Exercise #2:  Social Media Disrupts School Climates?

  1. Visit the Safe and Supportive Schools website at: http://safesupportivelearning.ed.gov/resources/2011-school-climate-technical-assistance-symposium-facing-facebook and click on the link to download the PDF titled “2011 School Climate Technical Assistance Symposium: Facing Facebook.” Read the 3 page article. 
  2. Write about your reflections on the author’s suggestion that social media can disrupt a school climate through faculty-to-faculty, faculty-to-student, and faculty-to-parent use.  How could this social media tool wreak havoc on the professional learning community and what parameters should schools place on the use of social media by school administrators and teachers?
