Web Exercise #1:  RTI and School Improvement

  1. Visit the Renaissance Learning website at: http://www.renlearn.com/RTI/default.aspx?gclid=CMmZqYSngrQCFaGPPAodhREAJw
  2. Scroll down the page until you see “RTI Videos.”
  3. Click on the first video, “RTI in Action,” which is based on a low-performing school in Denver, Colorado.
  4. Watch the video and then write a response that answers the following questions:
  1. What makes this school’s RTI program successful?
  2. Who are the stakeholders?
  3. How is it implemented in their school?
  4. How is RTI perceived by their faculty?  What are their attitudes toward RTI?

Web Exercise #2:  Formative Assessments

  1. Visit the West Virginia Department of Education website at:  http://wvde.state.wv.us/teach21/ExamplesofFormativeAssessment.html
  2. Begin clicking on any of the multiple formative assessment strategies.
  3. Pick 3 of your favorite formative assessments.  Write their names and briefly describe how you can envision yourself using these strategies in your future classroom.  Make a list of the resources you will need to carry out these strategies, the supports you will need, and who will be the key players.  Write any concerns you have about using these key strategies.  Be prepared to share them in small groups in class.
