After reading Chapter 2 and the materials above, please address the following questions:

  1. How do you think the HR function will evolve in the coming years? What do current trends suggest?
  2. Do you think effective HR is important to an organization’s strategy? Why or why not?
  3. What do you see as some of the challenges of using HR to create value from the “outside in,” as Dr. Ulrich suggests? What should HR teams focus on to create such value?
  4. What is the role of leadership in integrating talent with organizational effectiveness?
    What metrics do you think would be useful in analyzing the success of the HR function? How can an HR department demonstrate that it is creating value?
