Learning Objectives

1-1: Compare and contrast the learning characteristics among students with learning disabilities, emotional/behavior disabilities, intellectual disabilities, high-functioning autism, and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder.

1-2: Discuss the implications of increased diversity in the student population on the field of special education. Include examples of linguistic, cultural, and socioeconomic diversity, as well as changing family structures.

1-3: Describe the major tenants of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and The Elementary and Secondary Education Act and how they impact special education services in the United States.

1-4: Outline the IEP process. Include the requirements to be included on all IEP documents as well as who attends IEP meetings and what role they each play.
