1. Webliography

Using your online learning management system, have students create a webliography on the discussion board, journal page, or wiki.  First, have students identify three websites related to chapter 13 material.  Have them post the link and provide a brief description.  Next, have the students comment on the webliographies of two – five other students.  As part of the instructions, tell students that websites cannot be repeated, so to review those already posted prior to completing their own.

2. Famous People and Mental Illness

As mentioned in chapter 13, mental illness is often stigmatized.  Have students research a famous individual who has struggled with mental illness.  Have them post the story on the discussion board and explain how the individual has worked to destigmatize mental illness.  Have the students review each other’s posts and comment utilizing the chapter’s material to discuss the stories.

3. Local, State, and National Resources for Mental Illness

Have students collectively create a resource page on support/intervention for mental illness in a public forum that can be shared.  Creating a class Facebook page could work well for this project.

4. Pinterest Board

I use this assignment in all of my classes.  First, create a Pinterest account if you do not already have one.  Create a “class board” for each class in which you will be doing this assignment.  The board must be made public.  Then, using your roster, invite your students to be collaborators for the class board.  Ask the students to “pin” an item or more (video, website, article, visual graphic, etc.) related to chapter one (no repeat pins).  Then, have them comment on a few of their peers’ pins, relating the pin to the chapter’s material.  If you want to see how successful this assignment can be, check out my class boards:  https://www.pinterest.com/professorgrayso/

By viewing the pins and comments, you will be able to see how the students understood the course material.  However, you could have them discuss the pins on a discussion board or write a journal about what they learned by viewing the pins and how the pins related to course material.
