1. Practical Money Skills
Have students visit the following website: https://www.practicalmoneyskills.com/foreducators/lesson_plans/college.php . Ask them to view three of the ten lessons (whichever three they find of most interest). Next, have the students discuss on the discussion board what they learned and how the material relates to chapter 11 material. Have the students review the posts of at least three peers and comment on their post integrating course material into the post.
2. Financial Literacy Games
Have students visit the following website: https://www.practicalmoneyskills.com/games/ and choose one of the games to play. When finished, have them answer the following questions.
- Which game did you choose to play and why?
- What skills or information did you learn by playing this game?
- How will these skills or information help you in your daily life?
3. Student Budget Worksheet
The following website has an excel budget worksheet that students can download: https://www.mint.com/budgeting-3/student-budget-template-simple-tips-for-students. Have students complete the worksheet, and then answer the following questions.
- Before this assignment, have you established a budget before?
- What did you find most helpful about this assignment?
- How will this assignment help you in the future?

This brief article provides practical advice on saving money. Students should read this, then reflect upon how this information could help them right now and in the future.
5. Pinterest Board
I use this assignment in all of my classes. First, create a Pinterest account if you do not already have one. Create a “class board” for each class in which you will be doing this assignment. The board must be made public. Then, using your roster, invite your students to be collaborators for the class board. Ask the students to “pin” an item or more (video, website, article, visual graphic, etc.) related to chapter one (no repeat pins). Then, have them comment on a few of their peers’ pins, relating the pin to the chapter’s material. By viewing the pins and comments, you will be able to see how the students understood the course material. However, you could have them discuss the pins on a discussion board or write a journal about what they learned by viewing the pins and how the pins related to course material.
