Investigating the Social World
Ninth Edition
SPSS Exercises
This is the time to let your social scientific imagination run wild because any analysis of the GSS or ISSP data sets will qualify as a secondary data analysis. Review the list of variables in either the GSS or the ISSP, formulate one hypothesis involving two of these variables that have no more than five categories, and test the hypotheses using the cross-tabulation procedure. (Specify the independent variable as the column variable in the selection window, specify the dependent variable as the row variable, and then choose the Option for your table of column percents.) See if the percentage distribution of the dependent variable varies across the categories of the independent variable.
