Web Exercise #1: Automatic Stereotyping

Adaptive categorization and social identity theory argue that stereotyping is an automatic process that is adaptive if sometimes mistaken. Implicit stereotyping of groups is commonly measured by the Implicit Attitude Test (IAT). You can complete IAT tests of various racial and ethnic groups by visiting Project Implicit. Complete an IAT and write a report about your experience. What, if anything, surprised you about the results? What do you perceive to be strengths and limitations of the IAT?

Web Exercise #2: Ambivalent Sexism Inventory

Ambivalent sexism is a complex combination of both benevolent sexism and hostile sexism. You can complete an online version of the Ambivalent Sexism Inventory to see how you score on these two constructs.
