Welcome to the Companion Website

Welcome to the SAGE edge site for An Introduction to Human Resource Management, 3rd Edition. Thank you for visiting.

It is perhaps a cruel fact of life that the vast majority of us have to work for a living and, therefore, are subject to being managed in some way or are required to manage the work of others. In essence, the purpose of people management – or Human Resource Management as it is now most commonly referred to – is to ensure that an employer has at its disposal the right mix of people to fulfil its activities and to encourage or compel workers to perform to their potential. As will be clear from the book, this is far from easily achieved.

The purpose of the book is to present an up-to-date account of this area of managerial activity and the associated field of academic study. To this end, and to borrow an oft-used phrase in contemporary HRM, I hope this website provides both students and lecturers with some ‘added-value’.

SAGE edge sites are designed to offer a host of resources that can be accessed anywhere, from the convenience of your phone to your tablet devices and laptops, providing a vast array of learning tools and resources that will further enhance your knowledge and understanding of the topic you’re studying.
