Chapter Activities
Activity 1: Role of Social Workers
As a class, get students to identify ways in which they will advocate for environmental social justice. Get one student to write the suggestions on the black/whiteboard.
Students will then analyze the policies and practices through the lens of race citing recent or current examples.
Activity 2: Recall or Identify Environmental Laws
Get students to identify the major environmental laws in the United States enacted to protect the air and water.
Students to describe also human activities that make people vulnerable to environmental degradation or disasters.
Activity 3: Natural Disasters
Students should work in groups of three to identify a natural disaster in the last decade. Students will use handheld devices or computers to search for statistical details of the disaster and to look at the present situation or aftermath of the disaster.
Students will regroup as a class and compare their findings.
