Learning Objectives

Chapter Summary

This chapter introduces the concepts of inferential statistics, the normal curve, and confidence level. Also introduced are the t-test, ANOVA, correlation and regression and Type I and Type II error. Examples of a calculation of ANOVA and correlation are provide. The steps in calculating a t-test for dependent and independent samples are shown in the text.

Chapter Objectives

This chapter will help you:

  • Explain the concept of inferential statistics and how they differ from descriptive statistics.
  • Describe the normal curve and its significance to inferential statistics.
  • Discuss the concept of statistical significance.
  • Describe and compute a t test.
  • Explain the concept of analysis of variance.
  • Compare and contrast the concepts of correlation and regression.
  • Define Type I and Type II errors.
