How does the article support the Learning Objective?  This article explains how IRBs work (and in certain cases don’t work) with community research ethics boards.

Summary:  Through a survey of over 100 community based ethics review boards, the authors determined that community based review boards and IRBs often work well together. Authors suggest further strengthening those relationships to better review community-centered research

Learning Objective:  Identify some of the ethical issues unique to researching  human communication on the internet.

How does the article support the Learning Objective?  The authors discuss how research boards review online research. There is also a discussion of ethical issues specific to online research.

Summary:  With the rapid growth of online surveys as a methodological choice, review boards are struggling with the different ethical concerns they engender. The authors’ survey of 750 review boards note that new complexities (data storage, security, design) bring new strengths and weaknesses to the process.
