Discussion Questions

Discussion Question #1:

Discuss why writing a formal action research report is important. How will you use this to empower your practice as a teacher? How might this be beneficial to your school or to your school district?

Discussion Question #2:

Why must you use a style guide to write your action research report? Discuss how this may not only improve your written action research report but also improve your writing as a teacher. What are some benefits and drawbacks in using a style guide? Do you think that your academic writing may improve as a result of writing your research report? Why or why not?

Discussion Question #3:

Describe the structure or format of your action research report. How might this format help you outline the different sections of your report? Discuss why you may or may not be able to follow a structure like those described in the text or the one adopted by your college or university.

Discussion Question #4:

Ethics in writing research reports is a necessity. Identify how you will strive to protect the rights and welfare of research participants in your action research study. What will you do to ensure accuracy of your research results? What will you do to reduce bias in your written language?

Discussion Question #5:

Review the “Practical Guidelines for Writing”, found in your textbook. Then make a writing schedule and a detailed outline that may be useful in guiding you through the process of writing your action research report. What are some obstacles that may delay completion of your report? Describe how you intend to keep on your schedule and avoid delays in the completion of your report.
