Discussion Question 1:
Considering the two different types of data collection techniques, qualitative and quantitative, which one do you plan to use to conduct your action research? Why? Have you considered using both types? Why or why not?
Discussion Question 2:
There are many different types of qualitative data collection techniques. Which ones would be appropriate to use to conduct your study? Which ones are you comfortable using? If you are going to conduct a qualitative study only, which different types of data collection techniques could you use to triangulate your data?
Discussion Question 3:
There are many different types of quantitative data collection techniques. Which ones would be appropriate to use to conduct your study? Which ones are you comfortable using? If you are going to conduct a quantitative study, are there any types of qualitative data collection techniques that might be useful to use to collect more specific data on participants?
Discussion Question 4:
Discuss how you would conduct an observation in your classroom for your action research. How might you be able to do this without disrupting your instruction? What are the advantages and disadvantages of conducting an observation while you are teaching? What are the advantages and disadvantages of you conducting this research rather than an outside observer?
Discussion Question 5:
Discuss how you would conduct a survey or a questionnaire with your students. How might this be beneficial to your instruction, the students’ learning, or your classroom management? What might you learn from conducting research of this type? Are there any drawbacks associated with collecting data through the use of surveys or questionnaires? If yes, what could you do to overcome these drawbacks?
