1. After reading this chapter, you should have a greater understanding of gender stereotyping. Consider the evolutionary perspective on gender. After reading the article, www.aljazeera.com/indepth/opinion/2013/04/201341055912257103.html, what are your thoughts on the author’s evidence for the differing “value” of men and women? How does the conceptualization affect perceptions and stereotypes of men and women? Use examples from the article and support from your text in your answer. Define the concept of “bargaining power” and describe how the bargaining power of women has changed over time. Do you believe the “shifting cultivation” of what is considered “work” will alter gender stereotypes?
2. Is gender stereotyping reinforced through things like television, music, advertisements, or other media outlets? Using support from the chapter, provide an example of stereotypical gender portrayals of men and women in the media (e.g., commercial, TV show, movie, social media excerpt), and explain how the portrayal might harm readers or viewers.
