1. What is your opinion of the movement toward evidence-based assessment? What are its advantages and drawbacks?

2. What are some advantages of using a disorders-based objective personality measure, such as the MMPI-2 or MMPI-2-RF? What are some disadvantages? What are some advantages of using a more neutral objective personality measure, such as the NEO-PI-R? What are some disadvantages? After looking at both objective and projective personality assessments, is there a particular one you feel that you would use more than the other as a clinical psychologist?

3. What types of information, if any, might a projective personality measure, such as the Rorschach Inkblot Method, elicit that an objective instrument, such as the MMPI-2 or MMPI-2-RF, might fail to produce? Besides attempting to assess personality, do projective assessment instruments provide any additional benefit?

4. What are the advantages and disadvantages of the behavioral assessment approach as compared to the traditional assessment approach?

5. Do you believe that an individual will “project” his personality onto ambiguous stimuli? Why or why not? Have you ever noticed a time in your life in which your personality shaped how you viewed an ambiguous situation? What happened?

6. What might be some drawbacks to behavioral assessment? Do you think being observed would change the patient’s behaviors in his natural environment? Why or why not?
