Study Questions

  1. Your client, a 65 year old female has been receiving your supportive therapeutic services for the last year as she has been the primary caregiver to her spouse who suffers from dementia.  As of late, she has been discussing her concerns regarding developing dementia herself as this also runs in her family.  Educate her regarding normative cognitive decline versus dementia.  When would you recommend a neuropsychological evaluation?  What signs and symptoms would suggest that one is needed?

  2. You are a psychologist giving a 45 minute community presentation at the local library on the topic of mild and major neurocognitive disorders (not including dementia or Alzheimer’s). Most of the registrants are people community members in their 40’s to 60’s. Summarize your present being sure to provide characteristics, prevalence, and treatment for these neurocognitive disorders.

  3. Compare and contrast delirium with one of the following: brief psychotic disorder, mild neurocognitive disorders, acute stress disorder, or substance or medication induced depressive disorder.
