Study Questions

  1. Compare and contrast the behavioral, experimental, neuroscience, and evolutionary perspectives of psychopathology?  Describe commonalities among the perspectives.  In what ways do they differ?  In what ways does the evolutionary perspective incorporate and integrate the behavioral, experimental, and neuroscience approaches to understanding psychopathology?

  2. Historically describe ways in which people with mental illness were treated.  In what ways do the treatment and intervention for people with mental illness reflect the values, beliefs, and culture of their era?  Why was there such a historical emphasis on the role of religion in understanding psychopathology?

  3. What is the present view of people with mental illness and to what extent have negative stereotypes and stigma associated with psychiatric diagnoses become more humane?  In what ways has self-advocacy and technology contributed to improving perceptions of and interactions with people diagnoses with mental illness?
