Study Questions

  1. Eating disorders, in particular anorexia nervous, are associated with perceptions and views regarding the ideal body.  Explain how the pursuit of these ideal body standards can place an individual at risk for developing an eating disorder.  What are additional risk factors and experiences associated with eating disorders?

  2. Describe the gender differences in the development, diagnosis and treatment of eating disorders.  Be sure to include obesity, anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and binge eating disorder in your response.

  3. You have recently diagnosed one of your patients with anorexia nervosa.  You are considering additional diagnoses as being co-morbid to anorexia.  It is not uncommon for individuals with eating disorders as having depressive symptoms and depressive disorders in addition other health concerns.  Describe how you will incorporate treatment for depressive disorders in your treatment plan.  Likewise, as there is great risk of death for an individual diagnosed with anorexia nervosa, how will you ensure health and safety for your patient given these medical risks?
