  1. You have interests in becoming a sex therapist in order to help patients who experience sexual disorders.  Explain why it is important to have a solid and thorough background in health psychology and human development as well as relationship-couples counseling?

  2. Describe the physiological processes related to sexual desire, arousal, and response and how these processes may become disrupted leading to sexuality disorders.

  3. Compare and contrast paraphilic dysfunction disorders, focusing upon disruptions in sexual desire and arousal.  What are the available treatments and interventions?  What do these interventions have in common, and how do they differ?  What is considered the most difficult paraphilic dysfunction disorder to treat? Explain why this is the case.

  4. Summarize the gender differences in the various types of sexuality disorders. Likewise, explain gender specific treatments and interventions.

  5. You are a child therapist, and your 9 year old client has consistently provided statements and information in the context of therapy that they are of the opposite gender, incongruent with their biological sex.  You are scheduled to have meet with the child’s parents.  Describe what you will say to help them understanding about development, gender identity, gender dysphoria, and available treatments and therapy. As a therapist, what biases may you have that can negatively impact the way you provide this information to the parents? How might you lessen these biases so you can provide ethical and competent care for your client and her parents?
