This link to the Researchgate website provides access to an article by David Hodge about the use of “spiritual lifemaps” in working with clients. Read the article, and create a spiritual lifemap for yourself, or create one for the case study of David Sanchez. Bring the lifemap to class, and discuss its usefulness with other students.

2. The Strategic Prevention Framework Based on Risk and Protective Factors

The Center for the Application of Prevention Technologies (CAPT) model uses the strategic prevention framework (SPF) to prevent substance use and misuse. The model for prevention specialists, based on the theory of risk and protective factors, is presented here.

  • Take notes on the steps in the strategic prevention framework (SPF), and then read about and take further notes on how the steps are applied to address a specific population at risk.
  • Brainstorm about how the model could be applied in your community.
  • Discuss what you learned and your ideas for applying the model in your community with other students in a small group, and/or e-mail a summary of what you learned and your ideas to your instructor.

3. The Impact on U.S. Society of the Millennial Generation

This report on the millennial generation by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce gives some in-depth insight about general trends but focuses mainly on the economic activity of members of this cohort.

  • What impact does the research find millennials are having on the economy? Do you agree or disagree with the research findings?
  • Look for two other websites with information about the millennials and/or another cohort of U.S. society.
  • Do you find that there are useful generalizations that can be made about the millennials and/or other cohorts? Can these generalizations be useful to the social work profession? Why, or why not?
  • Use the research you have done to write two paragraphs comparing generalizations that are made with your actual experience as a member of a cohort or close observation of another person representing a different cohort.
