Go to http://www.bc.edu/research/intasc/library/correlation.shtml, where you will find an interactive scatterplot. On the right side of the interactive scatterplot, you will see a place where you can increase the sample size and below that there is a place where you can adjust the correlation strength and direction. After becoming familiar with the interactive scatterplot, answer the following questions:
- What do you notice in the scatterplot as the strength of the correlation increases?
- What do you notice in the scatterplot as the strength of the correlation decreases?
- What happens to the data on the scatterplot when there is a negative correlation?
- What happens to the data on the scatterplot when there is a positive correlation?
- What changes occur in the scatterplot as the sample size increases?
- What changes occur in the scatterplot as the sample size decreases?
