Web Exercises

Go to http://www.bc.edu/research/intasc/library/correlation.shtml, where you will find an interactive scatterplot. On the right side of the interactive scatterplot, you will see a place where you can increase the sample size and below that there is a place where you can adjust the correlation strength and direction. After becoming familiar with the interactive scatterplot, answer the following questions:

  1. What do you notice in the scatterplot as the strength of the correlation increases?
  2. What do you notice in the scatterplot as the strength of the correlation decreases?
  3. What happens to the data on the scatterplot when there is a negative correlation?
  4. What happens to the data on the scatterplot when there is a positive correlation?
  5. What changes occur in the scatterplot as the sample size increases?
  6. What changes occur in the scatterplot as the sample size decreases?
