Chapter 14: America and Russia
- To identify and explain the sources and historical evolution of U.S. policy toward the Soviet Union, especially during the Cold War.
- To explain and assess America’s effort to “reset” U.S.-Russian relations, the deterioration in relations after the Cold War after a brief era of cooperation following the ascension of Vladimir Putin as Russian president, NATO expansion and intervention in the Balkans and elsewhere, and Russian involvement in Ukraine.
- To detect and assess the impact of the key values and interests that shape U.S. policy toward Russia.
- To identify and assess the alternative U.S. foreign policy options of dealing with Russia over issues including Syria and Iran, U.S. missile defense in Europe, Ukraine, and Russian human rights abuses.
