  • Utilize various theories of socialization to illustrate how an individual is socialized throughout their life course, from birth to entry in the workplace, to retirement, to death.
  • Define socialization, recall the major agents of socialization (family, peers, school, media, religion, work), and demonstrate how people are socialized by these agents.
  • Analyze specific, everyday social interactions using sociological terms and theories, such as ethnomethodology and conversation analysis.
  • Compare and contrast theories of Cooley, Mead, Freud, Piaget, and Kohlberg in regards to the self and social development.
  • Evaluate the strengths and weakness of various theories of socialization and social interaction.
  • Discuss Goffman’s dramaturgical approach and identify front stage and back stage behaviors in their own life.
