Discuss the public’s reaction to soldiers returning from the Vietnam War and soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan. Ask the students how much the media plays into the reaction the public has to soldiers returning from war.

Racial profiling of Muslims and those of Arab and South Asian descent increased after 9/11 and again after the election of President Trump. What institutions can reckon with these issues? What needs to be done at the social level?

Ask students to compare the functionalist, conflict theorist, and feminist perspectives of war. What can each of these perspectives teach us?

President Trump ended President Obama’s Iran Deal, reimplementing economic sanctions in the process. Ask students to discuss the effectiveness of U.S. economic sanctions against Iran. Are sanctions effective diplomacy? What are the alternatives?
