  1. Online Social Support: Have students think of an illness (e.g., lupus, lung cancer, osteoporosis) and then go to the Internet and locate as many websites as they can that offer social support for that specific illness. In what ways do they offer similar services? Different services? Why might a patient choose one over another? Allow class time for discussion to see what students found.
  2. Patient-Provider Relationship Medical and dental students are typically offered very little education and/or training in the area of patient-provider communication. Have students visit the website and explore the various links that provide a good deal of resources information on this area.
  3. Medication Advertisements This website provides a section of images and videos where students can see how advertisements for medications and drugs have evolved over time. Have students review these ads and note how much things have and have not changed over time
  4. Training Nurses in Patient Communication is an online annotated bibliography that provides a number of excellent sources for research on the area of patient-provider communication. Find at least two of the articles for which direct links are provided and compare and contrast the information provided.
