[This article presents practical guidelines to be used in preemployment testing by organizations to help ensure successful integrity testing procedures. The guidelines address several key issues, including the need for careful planning, setting objectives, selecting tests, training, making hiring decisions, and monitoring performance and behaviors over time.]

Questions to Consider:

  1.  Describe the primary purpose many organizations include integrity testing during the hiring process of new employees.
  2. Describe the differences between overt integrity tests and personality-based integrity tests, including when an organization would choose one over the other type.
  3. Discuss the guidance the authors provide in regards to fairness and adverse impact from integrity tests.

DeStefano, in light of various facets of the equal employment opportunity statute, implication of the decision for employers to use testing procedures, potential for future litigation, and other key issues raised by the decision.]

Questions to Consider:

  1.  Discuss the role future Supreme Court Judge Sonya Sotomayor had in the lower court ruling that was then reviewed and acted upon by the U.S. Supreme Court, after she had been confirmed to sit on that bench.
  2. Describe several steps taken by Industrial/Organization Solutions, Inc. (IOS) to develop and administer the examination for the City of New Haven firefighters.
  3. Describe three options that an organization or government has when they are made aware that their testing procedure has an adverse impact on a protected group.  Then discuss what option the author recommends in this situation.
