Think about how the man and that women share meaning that can cause a positive outcome to their communication. What might have been the outcome if the phrase “look out” had a different meaning for the man than it had for the woman? Think about a recent time when you communicated a message to someone and the communication worked well because the meaning you conveyed was the same as the meaning understood or shared by the other person. Now, think about a recent time when you were in a situation in which the message you sent was NOT understood or shared by the other person. How did you feel? Were you able to get the message across after one or more additional attempts?
