1. To identify and explain the sources and historical evolution of U.S. human rights policies.
2. To identify and explain the contemporary challenges in U.S. human rights and democracy promotion policies involving specific cases, involvement in bilateral and multilateral efforts, and abusive practices stemming from the War on Terror.
3. To detect and assess the impact of the key values and interests that shape U.S. human rights and democracy promotion policies.
4. To identify and assess the alternative U.S. human rights and democracy promotion policies, especially involving U.S. practices associated with the War on Terror.
