1. To identify and explain the sources and historical evolution of U.S. policy toward the Arab world and the evolution of political Islam before the Arab Spring began in 2011.
2. To identify and explain U.S. foreign policy toward key countries in the Arab world during the Arab Spring, including Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, and Syria.
3. To detect and assess the impact of the key values and interests that shape U.S. policy toward key countries in the Arab world.
4. To identify and assess the alternative foreign policy options toward key Arab countries.
