What is the cause of the waterfall Illusion?

Sensory exposure to certain types of stimuli in the environment alters how we perceive other, similar stimuli.

The color contrast between the white and black lines is too strong and overwhelms the visual system, altering how we perceive them.

Prolonged sensory exposure to one stimulus alters how we experience other stimuli after the prolonged exposure.

Movement in one direction is not linked to movement in the opposite direction.
