Cable News Network (CNN)

The Cable News Network is an excellent source for up-to-date political coverage. Frequent news and opinions articles illustrate the many facets of the political game. This premier news site has links to video coverage, cartoons, and in-depth background reports. The site may also be searched for past coverage. Although the CNN “Inside Politics” Web page that is linked here is generally domestic in focus, international news is readily available in other areas of the CNN Web site.

Center for Defense Information (CDI) Joins Project On Government Oversight (POGO)

The Center for Defense Information, an independent military research organization, joined the Project on Government Oversight in May 2012. Center for Defense Information at POGO has an excellent research and information for anyone who wants to know more about the world’s “hot spots.” Research topics on this site include defense policy, foreign policy, military forces, strategy, arms trade issues, European issues, nuclear issues, international peacekeeping, and military spending.

Web Genocide Documentation Centre

The politics of destruction is best shown in the modern era through genocidal campaigns. The Web Genocide Documentation Centre, by Dr. Stuart Stein, provides resources on genocide, war crimes, and mass killings. The site lists all major campaigns of the last century and provides links to various references, such as histories, bibliographies, U.N. reports, maps, timelines, news articles, and other forms of documentation. Also included are a definition of genocide as agreed upon at the 1948 Geneva Convention and a glossary.

American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO)

The American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations is a federation of labor unions in the United States. The AFL-CIO promotes workers’ rights and attempts to “build and change the American labor movement.” This site provides information about issues central to the labor movements and links to articles on workers’ rights and welfare.

The Thoreau Reader

The Thoreau Reader Web site compiles the books, essays, poetry, and thoughts of Henry David Thoreau. Full texts of Thoreau’s works, including Civil Disobedience, are provided. Numerous links lead to other sites and additional information, including sites where the thoughts of Thoreau are compared to those of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Mohandas (Mahatma) Gandhi.
