Exercise 1

Based upon the information in Chapter 9, combined with this video, pick one professional role and determine the benefits and weaknesses of having this professional as part of the juvenile court process.

Various cities have gone to teen court alternatives that allow teens to hold other teens accountable for more minor offenses. There is a national teen court website that may be found at http://www.angelfire.com/biz/nationalteencourts/.

1. Examine the website and the website’s resources.
    
2. Click on the link “government vs. non-government supported teen courts.” What is the difference between the two? Which type of program do you feel would be better? Why?
    
3. Click on the link “101 reasons for using a district teen court.” Which five reasons do you feel are most persuasive?
    
4. Based on your examination of the website, do you think teen courts would be effective or not?
