This chapter has touched upon some of the vital and growing areas within forensic psychology today. The field can impact upon many different processes within the police and courts, and the research and evidence base in this area is ever expanding as new discoveries are becoming crucial to criminal investigations. In addition, valuable research is being conducted into understanding why people offend (and thus what we can put in place to prevent them offending in the first place). Finally, we explored forensic psychology and treatment within the prison system. If you are interested in becoming a forensic psychologist, the chances are that you will find yourself working with prisoners in treatment. The work is rewarding and yet difficult, an epitaph that could apply to almost all areas of forensic psychology.
